Summer is my least favorite season. I don’t have the constitution for heat and humidity, and the term ‘festival fashion’ fills me with dread. How does one fabulously goth it up when the weather conspires against dark dressing? The answer is in a trend that’s really been taking off the past couple of seasons: sheer. My favorite designer for summer is Ann Demeulemeester. Season after season, the house puts out light, floaty, convertible pieces that can be layered in winter and stripped down for summer. It helps that the fabrics are often breathable: cotton, linen, and loosely woven knits. This dress is a very breathable mesh that looks cool with opaque underpinnings. The bell sleeves are enormous and amazing. I’ve paired it with a thick Alexander McQueen waist belt and Prada sunnies, and one of my favorite lip colors from MAC to break up the monochromaticisn — My Darling Clementine.
